Mishael Morgan Opens up About Her Emergency Eye Surgery (EXCLUSIVE)

Fans were concerned when Mishael Morgan announced back in March that she had undergone emergency surgery to correct a detached retina, especially when THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS had to temporarily recast Amanda to accommodate her recovery time. But the actress is happy to report that all is well now. “There was a little bit of a lingering problem,” Morgan confided to Soaps in Depth, “because I should’ve been done after the eight weeks and when I went for my checkup, he said that my eye pressure was a little high.

“But I think there was a bit of a mixup with the drops I was taking,” she continued. “I went back five weeks later and he was able to confirm that my eye pressure is good and now I just have to see him every three to four months because I have a higher likelihood of something happening in the future because this happened. But as of right now, I’m given a clean bill of health and everything is back to a hundred percent. So I’m super happy to report that chapter is over!”

Morgan knows just how lucky she is that she will have no lingering vision problems, especially since she admitted she had no idea she even had a detached retina that would require emergency surgery! “My eyes felt completely normal,” the Y&R star revealed. “I didn’t feel any signs or symptoms. I didn’t see any floaters, flashes… I didn’t have any pain, I wasn’t getting any headaches. I had absolutely no symptoms. Which, the doctor said it was rare, but some people don’t exhibit any symptoms.”

Being a working mom, Morgan skipped her eye exam the previous year, not thinking it would be a big deal. but was very glad she went this time around! “That was the year not to miss!” she laughed. “Because they may have caught it when it was just a tear but apparently it was detached. He said it can go from something that could happen gradually or it can be spontaneous and the next day it’ll just fully detach. And then you’re really risking blindness.

“So that’s why it was really an emergency thing that I had to get going on right away,” Morgan concluded. “They just found it in a routine eye exam. So everybody go and get your eye exams!
