Viewers are eager to see the fireworks when Kyle discovers that his mother, Diane, is alive, and so is actor Michael Mealor, who was excited to return to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS for this unique opportunity. “When they called me up and told me about the storyline, I got chills,” Kyle’s portrayer confessed to ET Canada. “If there’s ever a storyline for Kyle to move back from Italy and me to return to the show, then this is it.”
Mealor joined the cast of Y&R back in March 2018 as the fourth adult actor to play Jack’s son, Kyle. After exiting the soap in August 2021, he has made the occasional appearance, but this return will be a long-term stint as opposed to a single episode visit or video call.
When Kyle left Genoa City last summer, he departed with his son, Harrison, to live with Summer, who had landed a fabulous new job in Italy. While living overseas, the couple married, but there has been no word as to whether Hunter King would also be making another appearance as Summer, if the role would be recast, or if Summer would simply be staying behind in Italy to take care of Harrison.
One thing’s for sure — when Kyle returns home to Genoa City, he’s going to be a different man than the one who left and that’s going to have a major impact on how he reacts to the news that his mother isn’t quite as dead as she’s led people to believe for decades! “What fans can expect is a papa bear figure who is really protective of his son,” Mealor previews. “He’s had a rocky three years but he’s matured as a man, he’s matured as a father, and he’s matured as a husband as well.
“At the end of the day, he’s a little boy who lost his mom and I think everyone can relate to that,” he continued. “I think Kyle is wrestling with the joy that his mom is alive but also the fact that she chose not to be here for 20 years.”
Diane is already back in Genoa City in preparation for the big reunion and Kyle will be returning shortly, so make sure you stay tuned to Y&R because you won’t want to miss a single episode of the drama as this storyline unfolds!
