It’s official — Allison Lanier is the new Summer Newman on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS! News that Michael Mealor was returning to the soap as Kyle Abbott had fans wondering if Kyle’s wife, Summer, would be coming back to town with him, and it turns out she is, but with a new actress playing the character. Lanier is scheduled to first appear on Y&R sometime in May.
Viewers might recognize Lanier from her recurring role as Annabelle on the Amazon series RED OAKS. She can also be seen as Megan in It Happened in L.A. as well as in the indie films Mia and Fish Bones. Y&R will mark the actress’ daytime debut.
Nick and Phyllis’ daughter was born back in 2006 and was played by a series of twins before child actress Samantha Bailey assumed the role in June 2009. Then, in June 2012, Summer came down with a case of SORAS and the role was recast with teenage Lindsay Bushman. But by October of that year, Hunter King took over and played her off and on for years. (Aside from a few episodes in 2018 when Bayley Corman stepped in when King wasn’t available due to prior commitments.) King left Y&R again in August 2021 but popped back in for a few visits since.
However, now that Kyle and Summer are returning to the canvas full time, Lanier has been tapped to take over the role. And with Kyle about to learn that his mother, Diane, isn’t as dead as he’s been lead to believe for the past 20 years, he’s going to need all the support he can get. So it’s good he’ll have his wife by his side! (Of course, we’re sure Summer will get mixed up in plenty of drama of her own, too!)
Stay tuned to Y&R to see what happens next!
