Stars Reflect on the End of ONE LIFE TO LIVE

It was 10 years ago, on Jan. 13, 2012, that fans said farewell to Llanview as ONE LIFE TO LIVE aired its final episode on ABC. After more than four decades, viewers couldn’t believe that the drama was actually coming to an end. And on the anniversary of that sad day, many of the soap’s stars reached out on social media to share the love that still exists for this much-missed soap. “Miss my OLTL family and friends,” Kassie dePaiva (Blair) shared in a simple but heartfelt tweet.

The day before the anniversary of OLTL’s final episode, Robin Strasser (Dorian) not only shared a link to the SoapsInDepth.com gallery featuring classic photos from the soap’s long run, she also urged fans to get the hashtag trending on Twitter. “Personal request,” she wrote. “Though an avid tweeter, I’m not exactly sure how Twitter ‘trends’ work but if we all put a hashtag on #OneLifeToLive maybe, we can get it trending tomorrow? It’s the 10th anniversary of its final ABC episode. I miss it, you miss it, many miss it. Let’s hashtag it, please.”

Then, on Jan. 13, Strasser did just that as she wrote: “What soap broke ground and told stories that had never been dealt with before? #OneLifeToLive! Created by the brilliant and generous Agnes Nixon, who enhanced lives and nurtured the careers of thousands. No exaggeration, Ms. Nixon was the nonpareil in that genre.”

“I have very fond memories of this time in my life,” Michael Easton (John) shared in a Facebook post. “It wasn’t just another show, it was a family — often crazy, occasionally dysfunctional — but held together by love and respect and more often than not, led to beautiful moments.”

Patrick Gibbons, who played a young Sam shared a screen capture from that final episode and tweeted: “10 years ago. Wow, that cast and crew was amazing. Everyone misses OLTL.”

Kristen Alderson (Starr) recalled how she literally grew up while working on the show from 1996-2012. “10 years ago today, OLTL aired its last episode,” she tweeted. “The cast and crew helped raise me to be who I am today. I really feel like I lived two lives growing up, being gifted with Starr’s life. I have life-long ‘family members’ from this show and I’m forever grateful.

“Thank you to our fans!” she continued. “You have been family! You invited our OLTL world into your world over all of those years. Not only did our characters become a part of your family but we, the actors, did as well. You still continue to show us so much love. It means everything.”
