Back on March 17, GENERAL HOSPITAL star Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) gave fans a heads-up that she was having back surgery the following week, and on March 28, she shared an update on her recovery! “Surgery was a godsend,” she admitted on Facebook. “The brilliant Matthew Chong at Kerlan Jobe swiftly removed the pesky cyst that parked itself on my facet joint in between a cluster of nerves on top and one seriously mean one on the bottom.
“I tell ya, surgery and the aftermath was a cakewalk after lugging around my little friend for six months,” the actress continued. “I didn’t take even one of the lovely painkillers. Just two Tylenol in all.”
With Grahn out on medical leave, GH announced that the role of Alexis Davis would be temporarily recast with Stephanie Erb. “My dear GHers,” she reassured fans when news of the recast broke. “All’s well, sweet ones. Out for a bit. Stephanie is a champ. Be back soon.”
However, there’s still a little more recovery time needed before Grahn can return to Port Charles. “I’m off for another week,” she reported. “Two and a half in all. Been shuffling around the house and of course, dropping everything I touch because I can’t bend down.”
Thankfully, she has her fiancé, Richard Smith, at home to help out, although to hear her tell it, he’s not helping as much as he could be! “It’s such a shame because I haven’t been able to do the laundry or lift groceries or make beds and clean things,” Grahn said. “So sad. No one else has been doing it either, but I don’t care. I happily shuffle around the house with my back brace. Every day is better than the next.”
Please join us in sending her best wishes for a speedy recovery, and while we’re sure Erb will do a fine job filling in as Alexis for a little while, we look forward to seeing Grahn back in business as soon as she’s ready!
