GENERAL HOSPITAL

Lindsay Hartley Has a Special Message for GH Fans!

For the second time in as many years, soap hopper Lindsay Hartley has temporarily taken over the role of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sam McCall when Kelly Monaco was unavailable. And as her time in Port Charles comes to a close, the actress penned a special message to the soap’s viewers for welcoming her with open arms.

On Feb. 5, Hartley posted a selfie taken in the mirror of her GH dressing room on Instagram, revealing that she had one episode to air left as Sam. “Thank you for the support,” the actress told her followers, going on to thank Monaco and executive producer Frank Valentini “for trusting me to step into a character that Kelly has so beautifully created. I appreciate you all.”

First appearing on Feb. 4, Hartley was tapped by GH to fill in as Sam for a handful of episodes while Monaco took a brief break in early January. The actress is best remembered by soap fans for her long-running role of Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on NBC’s PASSIONS. She went on to play Cara Castillo on ALL MY CHILDREN and Arianna Hernandez on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and in recent years, has written, directed, and acted in numerous Lifetime original movies.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity,” Hartley shared on Twitter when it was first announced that Sam had been temporarily recast again. “I am grateful to GH and Kelly for trusting me again with such a special character that Kelly has created for the soap community and for the genre that is forever dear to me.”

Hartley was first approached by GH to temporarily play Sam back in July of 2020 when the soap resumed production after shutting down during the beginning of the COVID pandemic and Monaco was unavailable. When Monaco returned to her role shortly afterward, she had nothing but praise for her fill-in. “I also wanna give a huge shout out to Lindsay Hartley for stepping in and doing a beautiful job playing Sam,” Monaco declared on Twitter that August. “Girl, you kicked ass. Way to go!”

There’s no official word as to when Monaco will be back on the screen. But since Hartley was only scheduled to appear for a handful of episodes, viewers should see Monaco back in action very soon. And with any luck, we’ll see Hartley become a more permanent part of the soap’s cast by taking on another role! Maybe Sam has a sister she doesn’t know about?
