Look for Josslyn’s study partner, Adam — played by Joshua Benard — to pop up again on GENERAL HOSPITAL in the next few weeks. The exciting news was announced by the young actor’s father, Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH), on Instagram in conjunction with his son’s appearance on the May 1 episode of his YouTube series, State of Mind.
“Joshua will be on General Hospital again this month,” the Daytime Emmy winner proudly wrote of his 17-year-old son. But that wasn’t the only exciting news that Dad had to share about Joshua! “He has an HBO project airing this summer and he’ll be releasing his first single soon!”
During the State of Mind conversation with his dad, Joshua opened up about how he just decided one day when he was 13 that he wanted to act. “I didn’t care about acting at all” before that, Joshua declared. “It’s kind of like, if you are born into something, people outside looking in are like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so crazy.’ A lot of that stuff is normal. So with acting, it was just kind of like another day. Also, before I was 13, nothing really interested me besides video games.”
But as Joshua explained, his competitive streak came out one day when his sister Cassidy’s boyfriend, Anthony, and family friend Franky Cammarata asked his dad to teach them how to act. “When they came over to our house and they couldn’t get the scene… I’m very competitive,” he explained. “I took that personally and decided, ‘I think I can do it.’”
Not too long after that, the younger Benard’s professional acting career began when he was cast on GH to play a younger version of his father’s character in a “What If?” episode in November 2018 that explored what could have happened if Sonny never got involved with the Mafia. “It felt freeing,” Joshua admitted of how easily performing came to him.
Later in May, Joshua will return to Port Charles as Adam, the creepy schoolmate who brought up Josslyn’s sex tape during their study session back in March. “When I get the chance to act, it’s always the best time,” Joshua declared, telling his dad that Eden McCoy (Josslyn) is a fantastic scene partner. “When you act with people who are good actors, it’s like the opposite of when I act with you,” he quipped, prompting a laugh from his father.
So far, there’s been no confirmation from GH as to when the younger Benard will be appearing, so check back with SoapsInDepth.com for updates!
