The Dec. 8 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL was a long time coming for fans who were eager to see Port Charles mob boss Sonny Corinthos face off against villain Peter August. And the showdown did not disappoint as the characters’ portrayers — Maurice Benard and Wes Ramsey, respectively — held nothing back as they exchanged barbs and threats across the table in the PCPD interrogation room!
In the powerful scenes, Sonny visited Peter at the police station, where the latter is in custody for having orchestrated Drew’s death. Peter is also responsible for Jason’s presumed death, and Sonny was champing at the bit to inform Maxie’s psycho ex that he’d see to it personally that August pays for that with his own life while locked up. Of course, Peter had a few threats of his own to fling back — like how he has proof of Sonny and Nina’s Nixon Falls romance on a flash drive to be released upon his death. But Sonny knew better than to take the bait, and informed Peter in that chilling calm, cool, and collected low voice that only Sonny is capable of, that “I just want you to remember that when they come for you, I sent them.”
As it turns out, the showdown was just as thrilling for the actors when they taped the scenes as it was for the audience watching from home. In a post made on both Twitter and Instagram, Ramsey shared a photo of him and Benard — from the wedding of co-star Chad Duell (Michael)! — to let his followers know exactly how he felt about the work he did that day with the Daytime Emmy winner. “The admiration and respect runs deep with this one,” Ramsey said of Benard in his caption. “Honored by the opportunity to finally square off face to face after all these years. Getting to work together is definitely on my personal highlight reel for 2021. I know that we both hope you all enjoy it.”
Benard, however, had a different spin on the scenes, as evidenced by what he captioned the very same photo on his own Instagram page! “Please, I need everyone to know Peter has kidnapped me he has a gun to my ribs in this picture,” Benard joked. “That’s why I’m not smiling. And he has that smirk. Please notify the authorities.”
In all seriousness, Benard has the same mutual respect for his colleague and paid the compliment right back to Ramsey on Twitter. “I think you might’ve kicked my ass on this one, Wes,” Sonny’s portrayer replied to Ramsey’s tweet, “but I loved watching you do that.”
Stay tuned to GH to see if Sonny makes good on his threat — or if Peter August will escape the authorities yet again!
